About Us

The focus of formation of AISTA in 1956 was the development of a team of dedicated professionals who would be able to adopt to the core science curricula related to newly introduced 11 class higher secondary education throughout the country. After formation of AISTA, WB Branch, the state unit took up different activities in the schools of WB. At this juncture, the science educationists across India started to feel the need of an aptitude test to evaluate the overall preparation of the students of schools to pursue higher education in science and technology, in a written form with the help of MCQ (Multiple Choice type Questions) after proper standardization. AISTA, WB Branch came forward to develop Science Talent Search Test (STST) based on this strategy. Soon, the test was further upgraded and started under the name Science Aptitude and Talent Search Test (SATST). SATST is the first of its kind in West Bengal and hopefully it is still now unique, when considered its quality of questions, result format and follow up pattern. Currently the test encompasses students from class III to class X and the questions are set in Bengali and English.

Apart from this, AISTA, WB arranges different kinds of programmes for students focusing improvement of their knowledge and ideas about Science, Environment, Mathematics and personality development. Talk, quiz, essay writing, drawing and painting, poster making, tree planting are some of those. AISTA, WB members very often take part in direct teaching in schools for enrichment of class teaching-learning or workshops or participatory learning programmes whenever calls come from authorities of any school.

AISTA, WB has experimented with different programmes in Science at different times for the interest of the school children. The effective and popular programmes are only retained and continued. Since 2017, AISTA, WB started a new test, Preparatory Test for Science Olympiad (PTSO) at slightly advanced level focusing all India syllabi for students of classes VII & VIII aspiring to participate in Olympiads in future. In 2020, the test was renamed as Science Pre- Olympiad (SPO) and from 2023, this test was arranged for students of classes V to VIII.

SATST was conducted online during 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 crisis. SPO was conducted online from 2020 to 2022. AISTA, WB is in the process of adding the use of online platform in more and more activities along with programmes involving direct contact with students and teachers.

AISTA, WB is like blessing for the students and talented members around
